Results:
The 3rd Monthly Medal and Golfer Of the Year competition took place over the weekend. The sun was out and the weather was nice and warm although there was a good breeze also to make it challenging from the back tees. The greens have firmed up and this added to the difficulty too.
With all that said, Rioch Walsh took the course apart! Starting the day off a 7 handicap, he had a near flawless 68 gross. He picked up birdies on the first, the ninth, the eleventh and the thirteenth with the only blemish on his card being a bogey on the fifth hole.
Fantastic golf from a young man who is doing his Leaving Cert shortly…
His reward is a cut to a 5.0 handicap and well deserved Category 1 status!

Junior Golf:
The Junior golfers continued their good form with a fine win over Callan Golf Club in the Leinster U15 Inter Club Matchplay played at Gowran Park on Sunday last.
Playing their third match in three weeks, the boys showed great determination in overcoming a strong Callan side. In the first match J P Treacy was one down to Conor Murphy after 7 holes and then played excellent golf through the turn before eventually winning his match on the 15th hole. Niall Treacy came up against an in-form Luke Donnelly who was only 6 over par when he leveled the scores for Callan at one game each. Phillip Dreeling was in great form to record his third win in this competition with a 5 and 4 win over Brian O’Sullivan while Matt Kenny ensured a Gowran success with a similar win over Sean Donnelly. In the final match Sean Roche was called in when 2 up against Brian Staunton.
Reserves Paul Delahanty (won 5 and 4) and Cormac O’Driscoll (3 up when called in) ensure keen competition for places on next week’s team to play Mountain View.
Coaching for Juniors continues each Saturday morning at 10.30am.

Inter-Club Golf:
Gowran Park beat New Ross in the 2nd round of the FBD Barton Cup on Saturday 8th May. Gowran had an away draw which meant 3 away games with only 2 at home.
Thos Farrell & Tony Treacy won on the 14th hole at home.

Shane O’Brien & Nicky Cleere sealed the match with a 3&2 victory at home.

This sets up a home draw against Kilkenny Golf Club who defeated Carlow last weekend.

Sean Kiely & Tony Treacy had a fine away win (2up) while the pairings of Michael Brennan & Ted Hoyne (2&1) and Dick Barron & Kieran Mahon (2up) both won at home.
