Ladies Day at Gowran Park – Saturday 27th July 2019

Gorgeous Gowran

It was hot, hot, hot at Gowran Park on Saturday 27th July for their annual Ladies Day. The style was hot. The racing was hot and the weather gods gave us a scorcher.

The style contestants of which there were hundreds were whittled down to just five finalists from which Louise Allen from Meath was the lucky winner. Louise walked away with a stunning prize –

A shopping experience courtesy of €1,000 in shopping vouchers from MacDonagh Junction. Not only that but then she will get to relax and unwind after her shopping spree with a 2 night stay in Lyrath Estate including an evening meal as well as spa treatments in their award winning Oasis Spa.

The other finalists were Sarah Cass, Tracey Millea, Lorna Doogue and Breda Quinn all of whom won a €100 Gift Card for MacDonagh Junction and a spa treatment in Lyrath Estate. Best Hair on the day was won by Emer O’Riordan who got a €100 voucher for Peter Mark in MacDonagh Junction.

On the racing front, it was the ladies stealing the show as the renowned Jessica Harrington saddled two runners and walked away with two winners courtesy of Silence Please and Minnie Haha. This gave jockey Tom Madden a double. However he was not the only jockey to ride a double on the day as both champion jockey Colin Keane and Ben Coen both recorded doubles as well, making it three double winning jockeys.

There was local success too which is wonderful to see when Lady Olenna won the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden for trainer Ray Cody who was delighted with the win. Speaking to the press after the race he added “she deserved it, her form was there in the book. Everything in around her has won since. She’s in a Group 3 at Cork (Give Thanks Stakes) in the middle of August. The owners are mad keen to give her a go at a bit of black-type. That’s where she’ll go next. I think she is a filly that is getting better with racing. She’s a big raw filly and I think her best days are ahead of her.”
