A beautiful day greeted every golfer as they made the walk to the first tee. Most just dreamed of avoiding the race course on the right but some dared to dream big. The dream quickly turned to a nightmare for some who uttered the immortal words “I’ll just hit a provisional”!
As expected the bookies they were spot on with the favourites this year. The heavily backed Ger Treacy shot a net 72 to comfortably qualify for the final nine hole playoff along with 18 other hopefuls. Ger a nearly man in many past Captains then shot a net 31.5 to claim first position with a combined 103.5 playing off a handicap of 9. A better man to hit an iron in the game I’ve not seen. He proved this a few week back with a 7 iron 220 yards to the par 3 16th for an ace.
Special mention must go out to Ciaran Whelan. Ciaran still only 15 playing off a handicap of 8 played amazing golf for the 27 holes. An ultra-talented all round sports man, Ciaran shot a combined 98. Once Ciaran moves into the senior ranks there will be many Captains Prizes going his way or maybe even Irish Opens.

We had a great crowd back for the prize giving night. As always Bernie served up delicious food and the crowd partied well into the early hours. Eddie Scally and the club jointly sponsored 3 vouchers which were won by Ann Mullins, Joe Farrell and Deirdre McCabe.
Just as an aside so everyone is aware to be eligible to win either the Captains or Presidents prize you must be a full member of the golf club and have played at least 3 qualifying rounds in the current calendar year.
