The mixed team won with an away draw against Castlecomer. The matches were hard fought with Thos Farrell and Linda Donoghoe winning on the 18th in Castlecomer, Paul Whelan and Hilary Dick lost on the 16th in Castlecomer. At home Liam O’ Dwyer and Maura Coe won on the 17th while Ger Treacy and Ann Mullins lost on the 17th which left it all in the hands of Kate Hennessy and Mick Dillon. Kate and Mick were one up going down the 18th and after a great drive from Kate, Mick put the ball in the middle of the green, the opposition were in the bunker in two and took two to get out an advantage Kate was able to make the most of by leaving her putt only a foot from the hole at which point Castlecomer realised they had lost the hole and Gowran Park were through to round two.
