We are currently planning our new Junior coaching structure and will be supervised by our panel of mentors in conjunction with the Junior Committee. Here is a summary of how it will work.
There will be four stages to a GUI pathway and Juniors will need to pass the four coaching station tests for each stage which involve, Technique, Putting, Pitching and Chipping.
Here is a summary of advice from the Golfing HQ governing Junior Golf in Ireland. Juvenile Cadet Section to incorporate Stage 1 & 2, nominal fee to include very basic coaching from the Professional. Cadets get course time on a weekly basis when possible. Stage 1 no more than 1hr activity with time in clubhouse for food and drink. Stage 2 should be no more than 2 hrs pending on how quickly they play their 6 holes. Encourage parents to supervise during skills challenges and on course playing.
Give each child a domestic/club handicap 54 for both boys and girls. Every week cut them a shot, if on winning team cut them 2 shots. All juniors progress to 45 handicap when starting stage 2. Move to 40 handicap when they progress to 150m. 38 handicap when they progress to 200m

Stage 4 both boys and girls have their official handicap and are now playing 18 hole competitions either in Junior section or adult sections.
