Our interclub season continues to go from strength to strength, with the great performance by the Mixed Foursomes on Sunday overcoming Mount Wolseley, we are now in 3 Leinster finals with various team, Jimmy Bruen, Revive Active and the Mixed Foursomes and still competing strongly in other competitions, we have a rundown below of both men’s, ladies and junior action over the last while.

 

Men’s Inter-club Competitions

Jimmy Bruen Shield         – Managers Jim Walsh & Mick Dillon

Leinster Central Final V TBC (County Longford or Naas) 29th July in Royal Curragh

Semi Final Win V Cill Dara, Sunday 9th July. 2 matches home, 3 away.  The men’s Jimmy Bruen team won a place in the Leinster Central final with a great win over Cill Dara on Sunday evening.  Gowran won their first home match and an away match with it all coming down to the 2nd home match.  Gowran fought back from 2 down to win on the 18th in what was a very tight game overall.  Well done to team members Conor Lynch, Adam Holden, Captain Dave Kearney, Eddie Walsh, Joe Forristal, Ger Treacy, Patrick O’ Keeffe, James Hurley, Robbie Hogan and Joe Colclough

Quarter Final WIN V Enniscorthy, Saturday 24th June. Frist tee time 3pm.  Well done to the Jimmy Bruen team who progress to the next round with a win against a strong Enniscorthy on Saturday, 24th June. Gowran had home advantage and won 2 matches at home and secured 1 away victory.  The team now march on to the Leinster semi finals to play Cill Dara or Carlow in the next round.  Well done to the winning team Joe Forristal, Pat O’Keeffe, Conor Lynch, Timmy Brennan, Eoin Brennan, Ger Treacy, Niall Tracey, Adam Holden, Hughie O’Shaughnessy and Joe Colclough

2nd Round WIN V New Ross, Sunday 11th June. Frist tee time 1pm.  The Jimmy Bruen team continue their winning form beating New Ross on Sunday afternoon. With 2 matches at home and 3 away the team were up against it.  Winning 1 match at home and one away, a 2nd away win secured the victory as they progress to the next round. Well done to the team and managers.

1st Round  WIN V Callan, Saturday, 20th May. Frist tee time 1pm.  With 3 games at home and 2 away, Gowran won their 3 matches at home.  Team members Ger Treacy, Hughie O’Shaughnessy, Captain Dave Kearney, Joe Colclough, Joe Forristal, Conor Lynch, Eddie Walsh, Robbie Hogan, Patrick O’Keeffe and Eoin Brennan.

3rd Match V Blessington Lakes, Sunday 2nd July. Frist tee time 3pm. 3 matches home, 2 away. Congratulations to the mens Barton Cup team who beat Blessington Lakes on Sunday 2nd July.  The team won 3 matches at home to progress to the next round.  Team members Ger Treacy, Diarmuid Aylward, Matty Hanrahan, Richie McKeever, Patrick O’Keeffe, Connor Lynch, Joe Colclough, Joe Forristal, James Hurley and Patrick O’Keeffe.

2nd Match V Ballymoney, Sunday 4th June. Frist tee time 1.20pm.  2 matches home, 3 away. The club was very busy on Sunday with three interclub matches taking place. Frist out the men’s Barton Cup team too on Ballymoney on Sunday afternoon, with 2 teams at home and 3 away.  The team put in a great performance to win 3.5/1.5.

1st Round WIN V Mount Juliet  Saturday, 13th May.  3 matches home, 2 away. Winning 2 matches in Gowran and an early win in Mount Juliet the team progress to the next round. Semi Final V Mount Wolseley, Sunday 16th July

Congratulations to the Mixed Foursomes team who booked a place in the Leinster Central Final on Sunday 17th, with 3 away it was another standout performance to move on the Leinster Final now.

Quarter Final WIN V Wexford on Sunday 25th June, first tee time 4pm.  Congratulations to the Mixed Foursomes who won against Wexford on Sunday, 25th June. With home advantage for Gowran, the games were very tight with Wexford getting an early win in Gowran. Gowran won the remaining two matches at home and Wexford won 1 of their home matches. With two matches each it all came down to the last match in Wexford.  The Gowran pairing fought back from one down on 16 to win 17 and 18 and secure the win for Gowran.  Well done to the winning team of Judy Dick, Aisling Costelleo, Helena McCormack, Orla McCormack, Ashleigh Boote, Joe Colclough, Joe Forristal, Ger Treacy, James Hurley and Matty Hanrahan.

3rd Match WIN V Waterford on Friday, 2nd June, first tee time 5pm.  Well done to the Gowran Park Mixed Foursomes who beat Waterford on Friday 2nd June, with 3 matches at home and 2 away.  Gowran will meet Wexford in the next round.

2nd Match WIN v Callan on  Friday, 12th May. The mixed had a great win, winning both matches in Callan and a match in Gowran. Well done to the winning team; Judy Dick, Jim Walsh, Rachel Dick, John Byrne, Aisling Costelloe, Mattie Hanrahan, Orla McCormack, Joe Forristal, Ger Treacy and Helena McCormack

Under 18 Interclub Boys   – Manager Lorcan Lynch

Well done to the under 18 boys who were runners up in the Leinster Central final on Thursday 29th June, missing out by two points to win.  A tremendous effort by the team Timmy Brennan, Eoin Brennan, Connor Lynch, Connor Carroll and Dara Leamy.  Thank you to John Leamy for managing on the day.

Pierce Purcell                      – Manager Eddie Walsh

The Pierce Purcell team were in hard luck on Thursday evening when they lost out to St Helens Bay in the Semi Final, haven beaten Castlecomer, Rosslare, Mount Juliet and Borris to reach this stage of the competition.  With 3 matches away and 2 at home and very wet conditions the Gowran team fought hard but it wasn’t enough to over come a very strong St Helen’s Bay team.  Team manager Eddie Walsh thanked his panel for their effort and dedication.  Team members for the match against Helens Bay – Darragh Kelly, Alan Dawson, Ollie Murphy, Mick Dillon, Pat Hynes, Declan Davis, John Whelan, Niall Power, Joe Walsh and Tommy Bolger.

Duggan Cup                        – Managers Jim Walsh

The Duggan Cup team were also in hard luck when they lost out to Mount Juliet in the 2nd round of the Duggan Cup on Saturday 10th June.  Although Gowran had the home advantage, and played well, it wasn’t enough to overcome a strong Mount Juliet team.

Central Towns                   – Managers Pat O’Neill, Joe Forristal and Ger Treacy

The Central Towns team lost their 2nd round to  Carlow, Saturday 20th May. With 2 matches at home and 3 away, Gowran won 2 and Carlow won 2 all coming down to the final match in Carlow, but it wasn’t to be.  Team members Adam Holden, Diarmuid Aylward, Paddy Harkin, Shane Doyle and Aidan Lee.

JB Carr                  – Manager Eamon Keely and Pat Mulroney.

The JB Carr lost their 2nd  round  Wednesday, 2nd May v Kilkenny. Team members Pat O’Neill, David Bambrick, John Byrne, Frank Costello, Gerry Doyle, Mick McKillen, Jim Walsh, Michael Bolger, Eddie Walsh and John O’Driscoll.

Barton Shield lost first round to Bunclody, Friday, 9th June.

Intermediate Cup               – Manager Sinead Kearney

Semi Final V Kilkenny Date TBC (before 23rd July)

Quarter Final WIN V New Ross, Thursday, 6th July. Frist tee time 3pm.  Congratulations to the Gowran ladies Intermediate Cup team who beat New Ross on Thursday evening.  In very wet conditions the ladies won their first home match and one away match with victory dependent on the 2nd home match. Gowran won 15th, 16th  and birdied the 17th to win the match and progress to the next round.  Team members Aisling Costelloe, Lottie Boote, Maura Coe, Orla McCormack and Helena McCormack

2nd Match WIN V Bunclody, Saturday, 17th June.  Congratulations to the ladies Intermediate Cup team who beat Bunclody to progress to the quarter final of the competition. The ladies teed off against Bunclody on Saturday with the home draw amd won their 3 matches at home to secure the victory. A special note of thanks to the fantastic caddies who supported the players. Team members Lottie Boote, Aisling Costelloe, Maura Coe, Helena McCormack and Orla McCormack.

Leinster Central final V Rathdowney on 30th July at Royal Curragh

Semi Final WIN V Millicent, Tuesday, 27th May, first tee time 5pm.  Congratulations to the Junior Foursomes team who won against Millicent on Tuesday, 27th May. With home advantage the Gowran ladies won their 2 home matches with the final match in Millicent called in.   The team now progress to the Leinster Central final V Rathdowney on 30th July at Royal Curragh.  Team members Lottie Boote, Orla McCormack, Maura Coe, Catherine O’Driscoll, Aisling Costelloe and Helena McCormack

3rd  Match WIN  V Kilkenny, Sunday 11th June, first tee time 3.30pm. 1 match home, 2 away. The ladies Junior Foursome took on Kilkenny on Sunday afternoon.  The ladies lined out with 1 match at home and 2 in Kilkenny.  The ladies secure the first win at home and lost one match in Kilkenny, so victory depended on securing the last match in Kilkenny.  And after a tough but sporting match the Gowran ladies secured the win in Kilkenny to move onto the next round.

2nd Match WIN V New Ross, Tuesday, 16th May, first tee time 4.56pm – 2 matches home, 1 away. Congratulations to the winning team of Aisling Costello, Orla McCormack, Maura Coe, Helena McCormack, Catherine O Driscoll and Ann Mullins.

Hard luck to the Challenge Cup ladies who lost out to Carlow on Saturday 1st July in their 3rd round clash.  The ladies had home advantage but came up against a very strong Carlow team, fighting hard in all the matches but it wasn’t enough on the day.  Managers Helena McCormack and Orla McCormack thanks the panel for their hard work and dedication.  Team members for the match against Carlow Breidette O Donnell, Maureen McCormack, Mary Purcell, Keelin Walsh and Annette Nolan

Boyne Trophy                    – Manager Joan Murphy

The ladies were knocked out of the Boyne Trophy in the 2nd round on Wednesday, 21st June.  With very tight matches across the board the ladies were not able to overcome a strong Rathdowney team.  Manager Joan Murphy thanked her team for the hard work and dedication, and wished Rathdowney all the best for the  next round.  Team members for the match against Rathdowney Margaret Murphy, Margaret Bower, Lady Captain Charlotte Boote, Brigid Mullins, Kate Hennessey, Ann Mullins, Helen Dunne, Maura Coe, Helena McCormack and Teresa O’Neill.

 

Minor Cup                           – Manager Ann Mullins

The minor ladies were in hard luck in the 2nd round of the Minor Cup, losing out to Castlecomer.  The ladies won a match and lost a match at home with the final match called in on the 19th.  Manager Ann thanked her players and panel for all their hard work and effort and the team wished Castlecomer well for the next round.  Team members for the match against Castlecomer, Ashleigh Boote, Margaret Murphy, Brigid Mullins, Kathleen Butler, Margaret Bower.

Junior Cup                           – Manager Ann Farrell

The ladies lost their 1st round match to Kilkenny on Sunday, 21st May. In what was a very close match, the ladies gave it their all. Team members Rachel Dick, Orla McCormack, Aisling Costelloe, Sinead Kearney, Kate Hennessey and manager Ann Farrell.

Gowran were unsuccessful in the Cullen Trophy on Thursday, 25th May.  Lady team members Ann Mullins, Lucy Condon, Teresa O’Neill, Dee McKnight and Lottie Boote
