Pat Scoops Top Prize
Our open singles over last weekend proved very popular with favourable weather conditions all competitors enjoyed the course. Pat Kirwan returned the best score over the 3 days. Playing off 10 Pat secured victory with 42 points ahead of Larry Comerford and Michael Bolger who both scored 40 points – a better back 9 for Larry resulted in him taking 2nd place with 3rd place going to Michael. Leading qualifier after each day were – Kevin Maher (18) Saturday, Niall Kiely (3) Sunday and Noel Kenny (11) Monday. All 3 players returned a score of 39 points.
Last Thursday’s Open Singles saw a great win for local member Mick Dillon (13) with score of 42 point. Carlow member Madelaine Brennan (9) took the runners up spot with a score of 38 points. The competition continues tomorrow Thursday 9th May with a timesheet in place – tel 056 7726699.

Ladies Inter Club
The Irish Mixed Foursomes Team managed by Declan Davis and Ann Mullins took on Kilkenny with three matches at home and two away. In Gowran Park the two pairings of Thos. Farrell (4) Linda Donohoe (20) Liam O’Dwyer (10) and Maura Coe(22) won comfortably. However, P.J. Dreeling (8) and Nora Barron (15) after a great effort were defeated. In Kilkenny Mick Dillon (13) and Kate Hennessey (11) had a great win to secure the match with Paul Whelan (5) and Ann Mullins (15) being called in on 17th. Gowran Park now advance to the third round and meet the winners of the Mount Wolseley/Killerig match.
Unfortunately our Minor Team managed by Niamh Connolly was beaten by Birr in the 1st round in Abbeyleix last Monday by 3/2 matches. The team – Sally Kavanagh, Kathleen Whitehead, Joan Murphy, Catherine O’Driscoll & Helen Dunne.
A note of congratulations to our Miele Team who defeated Kilkenny in a tense encounter last Monday afternoon – the match was decided on the 19th in Gowran Park.
Best of luck to the Intermediate team who are playing Mountrath in Castlecomer on Sunday 12th.
Junior Golf
There was great excitement in the Junior Competition held on Saturday May 4th when Bill Whelan scored a magnificient hole in one at the 5th hole. Playing off a 24 handicap, Bill aged 15, played his rescue club to the 150 meter par 3 and saw it roll straight into the hole. This helped Bill win the competition with a great score of 42 points.
