Joe Scoops Top Prize
Our Open Singles over last weekend proved very popular with favourable weather conditions – all competitors enjoyed the course. Joe Sinnott (14) Mountain View Golf Club scooped first prize with 41 points from the large entry. Gowran Park member Kevin Reade (11) took the runner-up spot with 39 points ahead of Borris member Aidan Somers (15) with 38 points. The gross prize was won by 8 handicapper Pat Johnson from Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club who returned a gross score of 30 points. The daily winners were Paddy Mahon (20) Gowran Park on Saturday and Eoin O’Mahoney (12) Waterford Golf Club who both returned scores of 30 points.
Last Thursday’s Open Singles saw a great win for local member Gearoid Kennedy (8)) with score of 41 points. Kilkenny member Brian Crowdle (3) took the runners up spot with a good score of 39 points. The competition continues tomorrow Thursday 8th May with a timesheet in place – tel 056 7726699.
Barton Cup
On Monday last 5th May Gowran Park progressed to the 3rd round of the Barton Cup. Home advantage proved to be the telling difference in the match as Gowran won all 3 games at home and only lost out narrowly on the games away with some excellent play from both teams. Best of luck to manager Jim Walsh and all concerned in the next round.

Ladies Inter Club
Gowran Park are through to the next round of the Junior Cup after defeating Castlecomer in Kilkenny. With the first two matches in Castlecomers’ hands the remaining 3 had to be won by Gowran Park to go through. Ann Mullins and Sinead Kearney won their matches leaving a thrilling final match in the capable and much experienced hands of Nora Barron, bringing the match to all square on the 16th with a great putt. Nora went on to win the 17th leaving Gowran Park 1 up heading down the 18th. It came down to a putt but it was all that was needed for Gowran to win and go through to the next round. Congratulations to the Team – Kate Hennessy, Judy Dick, Sinead Kearney, Ann Mullins and Nora Barron.
