Spring Series – Weekly Open Singles
Our Spring Series continued last Thursday 30th/Friday 31st February – with inclement weather on Friday competitors took advantage of the benign conditions on Thursday with all qualifiers coming from that day. Thomastown habitant Mick Bolger (15) took the leading qualifier spot with a good score of 39 points ahead of Killerig member Charlie Brennan (12) along with Gowran Park member Alan Cleere (17) who took the remaining qualifying spots. Open Fourball – Sunday 3rd February 2014
The first Open Fourball of 2014 took place last Sunday 3rd February – a reprieve in the weather ensured that competitors on Sunday enjoyed a good days’ golf -while ground conditions were somewhat heavy, returning scores did not reflect this. 46 points was the magic number with Gowran Park members Tony Mahon (17) and Jim Fisher (21) winning on a countback with a great score of 24 points on the back 9. Further scrutiny on the cards ensured George Barcoe (17) and Eddie Walsh (12) took 2nd place from Owen Phelan (9) and Joe Costello (13) Co.Tipperary – a countback on the final 6 holes decided the pairings. The next Open Fourball takes place on Sunday 9th March.
