Junior Golf
Gowran Park juniors created a big surprise when they defeated a strong Carlow side in the Leinster Under 15 Inter Club League held in Gowran Park on Thursday last. After a terrific match Gowran came out victors by 3 games to 2. In the first match Mackenzie Davin, conceding 3 strokes, won his match by 3 and 1, and this was followed quickly by a second victory when Thomas Dowling won the first three holes of his match and retained control to eventually win by 5 and 4. Carlow won the next match when Mike Carey had to give best to a very strong opponent. In the match of the day James Bergin was 4 down after 9 holes, but played top class golf on the back 9 to overtake the Carlow opponent and win 1 up. In the final match Ciaran Whelan was unluckly to lose out on the 17th hole. After three matches all teams in the group were level on points, but Kilkenny go forward to the next stage after a count back on the amount of games won.
