Captain’s Day On The Way
Declan Davis and Deirdre McCabe are busy preparing for their Captain’s Day which is due to take place on Saturday 28th June. The timesheet for the day is posted on the clubhouse noticeboard and members are asked to place their name on the sheet by no later than Wednesday 25th June. A draw for partners will take place on Wednesday evening and times will be allocated within half an hour of your original time.
The Jimmy Bruen team headed to Rathdowney on Saturday last for their qualifying round. After qualifying Saturday, Gowran Park returned to Rathdowney for the semi-final on Sunday morning however lost out in the odd match in 5. Despite a good performance they failed to qualify for the next round.
The midweek 9 hole competition continues this Wednesday and is proving very popular – last Wednesday evening saw an entry of over 50 competitors. Prizegiving for recent competitions will take place after the golf on Wednesday 25th June.
An Open Fourball will take place on Sunday 29thJune and is already proving popular with the timesheet booking quickly – reservations can be made at 056 7726699 or online www.gowranpark.ie. Another date for your diary is the Intermediate Scratch Cup scheduled for Sunday 13th July.
Open Singles – Thursday 12th June
Brian Crowdle (2) from Kilkenny GC took top spot in last Thursday’s Open Singles competition with 40 points just pipping Charles Hogg (13) Bunclody Golf Club with 39 points. Competition continues this Thursday 19th June.
JUNIOR GOLF
Gowran Park put up a great performance in the Under 15 Inter Club League last Thursday before going down to a strong Kilkenny side by 4 games to 1. In the first two games, newcomers Jack Foley and Conor Murphy were both defeated after putting in very good performances. Mike Carey played excellent golf to be level par after 11 holes before registering a good win for Gowran Park. James Bergin, playing great golf, brought his opponent to the 18th before conceding defeat. In the final match Ciaran Whelan, having to concede 6 shots to his opponent, needed a birdie to go up the 19th and just missed after a very high quality match. In the consolation games both Harry Foley and Conor Cleere recorded great wins while Tom Bolger just missed out. Overall it was very encouraging display and they now play Mount Juliet on Tuesday of this week.
