Junior Golf:
The under 15 golfers recorded their third win in the Leinster Inter Club Matchplay competition in Gowran Park on Sunday last against a very determined Mountain View side. Both teams played a very high standard of golf and the outcome was in doubt right to the end.
Gowran Park were 2 up after good wins by J P Treacy and Matt Kenny while the other three matches looked like going the full 18 holes. Sean Roche put in a superb effort with a string of pars on the back nine only to be beaten by a birdie on the 17th hole.
In the opening match Paul Delahanty had a great tussle with Shane Phelan of Moutain View with the lead changing hands on many occasions throughout the match. However from the 12th hole to the 17th Paul had three pars and a birdie to eventually win 3 and 1 and ensure victory for the home team.
Phillip Dreeling was always behind in his match but had pulled back to all square on the 15th before being called in. Reserves Niall Treacy ( all square ) and Cormac O’Driscoll ( 3 up ) completed the scoring.
Unfortunately Gowran Park with 3 wins out of 4 in their group matches finish behind Carlow Golf Club who won all their 4 matches and now go forward to the latter stages of this competition.
Junior coaching and competitions commence on Wednesday 9th June and continue for the summer months. Coaching also continues on Saturday mornings at 10.30am and new members are very welcome.

Inter-Club Golf:
The Junior Cup & Pierce Purcell teams wilted in the sun in separate Wexford venues on Saturday. They failed to hit the hit the standard required on the day to qualify to the knockout matchplay stages on the following Sunday in New Ross and Enniscorthy respectively.
The FBD Barton Cup team is in action against Kilkenny on Thursday so give your support if you can.
