We are in the middle of the first round of the matchplay season which kicked off last Sunday the 10th in glorious sunshine. The Ladies Foursomes team were out in Callan against Kilkenny and won – Congratulations to all involved.
The Intermediate and Challenge teams were out on Monday the 11th – the Challenge Team put up a great fight but were beaten by Kilkenny but we had better luck with the Intermediate team beating Mount Juliet – a very close fought match with two wins going to the 19th hole – well done to all involved.
The next round of matches are:
Minor Team against Carlow in Castlecomer on Monday the 18th
Junior Team against Carlow in Mount Wolsely on Monday the 18th
Mixed Foursomes against Athy (three home in Gowran, two away in Athy) Friday 22nd April

Open Singles continues Thursday
Inter Club matches this week include Provincial Towns Cup Match on Thurs versus Carlow along with mixed Foursomes versus Athy on Friday. The Towns Cup team will be hoping to amend the defeat of the Barton Cup team recently by Carlow and are looking forward to the encounter, even with giving up home advantage – 5 matches to be played in Carlow and 4 at home. Tee is reserved on Thursday from 3.45pm to 4.30pm for Provincial Towns and on Friday from 2pm to 3pm for Mixed Foursomes.
Members Monthly Medal Competition takes place over next weekend Sat and Sun, with points available for Golfer of the Year.
On Monday the annual Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team Charity Golf Fundraiser in memory of Dan Bolger takes place. This competition is to be an Open 2 person team event and it is open to mens, ladies or mixed competitors. Time Sheet in operation and can be accessed from the office at 056 7726699.
Junior Golf
Junior golfers will have their first outing of the year when they play in the Fred Daly Trophy in Bunclody Golf Club on Friday 29th April. A team of 7 juniors all under 18 years on the 1st of January will represent the club. There has been great competition for places and the following panel has been selected:- Dara McComb, Chris Dick, Garoid Kennedy, J P Treacy, Paul Delahanty, Matt Kenny, Niall Treacy, Danny Monks, Kevin Maher and Phillip Dreeling. A practice round in Bunclody is arranged for Wed 20th April.
