Left Handers Championship
Calling all Left Handers!!!
This weekend, Friday afternoon 20th and Saturday 21st July, sees our now annual Left Handers Championship take place. Our Club Captain, Joe Farrell, a left hander himself is hopeful of capturing the title this year as he has been playing steady golf over the last couple of months and is looking forward to meeting lots of fellow left handers on the course. The competition is open to members and visitors and will be hotly contested.
Intermediate Scratch Cup
A record entry of members and visitors enjoyed our Intermediate Scratch Cup Competition on Sunday last. With the course playing long off the blue tees and the greens rolling especially well Gowran Park member Olan Corcoran, playing off 10, took the major honours with a gross score of 79. Turning in 41 shots Olan played steady golf on the back nine and despite finishing with a couple of bogeys scored 38 gross on the back nine. Visiting golfer Kieran Foley (West Waterford) playing off 12 took the runner-up spot, losing out on the countback. Third place, again scoring 79 gross, went to Gowran Park’s James Comerford playing off 10. The nett prize on the day went to Williamstown member in Waterford Owen Murphy, playing off 11, with a nett 69. Our next major Scratch Cup day will be the Junior and Senior Scratch Cups which take place on Sunday 2nd September 2012.
Ladies Open Day
Today, Wednesday 18th July, will see a Ladies Open Day with a 3 Person Rumble taking place – this is the first of our open days for ladies this year and the time sheet is filling up quickly – telephone 056 7726699 for reservations.
Open Singles – Thursday 12th July
Last Thursday our Open Singles proved as popular as ever, with local young member James Bergin (Gowran Park) playing off 20 taking first place with a great score of 40 points. Thomastown native, home on holiday from Australia, Frank Lannon (Cumberland, Sidney) took the runner-up spot with 38 points playing off 15.
Upcoming Open Competitions
Our regular Thursday Open Singles continues through the month of July with preparations being finalised for our Annual Open Week, taking place from 9th of August to 19th of August 2012. Prior to that we are looking forward to celebrating our 11th Birthday over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. An Open Singles competition will be held right through the weekend from Friday 3rd to Monday 6th inclusive when all visitors will be welcome to come and enjoy the course prior to Open Week with a reduced entry fee of €11 per person. Visiting Captains.
Captain Joe Farrell and Lady Captain Ann Mullins had a very successful Visiting Captains Day last Friday 13th July in Gowran Park.
President Eamon Kealy (Gowran Park), Captain Bernard OToole ( Mount Wolsely) and Lady Captain Pauline Cullinane (Kilkenny) won 1st place with 77 points in a 3 person rumble.
