Gowran Park are hosting an Introductory Membership Programme over the coming weekend.  The initiative will coincide with two open competitions to take place with an Open Singles on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th along with an Open Fourball on Sunday 16tth September (sponsored by Farrell Foods).  Entry fee for these competitions will be €10.00 per person.  This is an opportunity for prospective members to come and experience the course and enjoy the facilities at Gowran Park. Tuesday 4th September saw a Seniors Open Singles take place in Gowran Park.  Local members Bill Deverill playing off 7 along with Liam O’Dwyer took the winner and runners up spot respectively.  Both players scored 37 points however Bill won out on a countback on the back 9.  The next

Seniors Open will take place on Tuesday 9th October.


On Thursday 6th September Gowran Park hosted its weekly Open Singles.  A great break in the weather together with golfers enthusiastic as ever saw a record entry on the day.  Young Gowran Park member John Lannon playing off 21 continued his consistent form recently and took victory with a score of 39 points.  Carrick-on-Suir member John O’Reilly (14) took the runner-up spot with the same score as John however lost out on the countback.


Members 18 Hole Singles


Last weekend saw a members 18 hole singles competition take place.  John Lannon now playing off 19 continued his winning ways taking victory from Mick Lane (10).  John secured victory with a good score of 40 points while Mick scored 38 points on the day.


The members club matchplay competitions are presently coming to their final stages.  In the Singles Matchplay the final will take place between Ned Nolan who beat Joe Lannon in the semi and Niall Treacy who beat Lee Graham in the other semi.   In the Fourball Matchplay Ger Treacy and Martin Donnelly have reached the final after defeating Kieran Mahon and Michael Comerford in the semi-final.  Ger and Martin are now waiting on the opposite semi-final to take place to find out their opposition for the final.  Thos Farrell and Kevin Fennelly are scheduled to take on father and son pairing of Paudie and Brian Lannon.


Inter Society Challenge


Gowran Park were delighted to host the Inter-Society Challenge recently.  Six societies comprising of 12 players took to the course for a competitive days golf.  Bennettsbridge Golf Society took the honours this year and were delighted with their victory.  Bennettsbridge edged out Goresbridge Golf Society into 2nd place.  Other societies on the day included Thomastown Golf Society, Stoneyford Golf Society, Graiguenamanagh Golf Society and Ballyhale Golf Society
