There have been two great wins for Gowran Park Ladies  – the Challenge Team (handicaps from 30 – 36) who are through to the Quarter Finals of the ILGU Homecare Championship Midlands District. The team who are largely inexperienced matchplayers have pulled out all the stops and managed to beat Faithlegg in round one – played in Callan and had a fantastic win over the much larger club Enniscorthy in Borris in round two. The team are:

Eithne Donnelly, Brigid Mullins, Mary Purcell, Mary Harding, Fionnuala Hennebry – who was substituted by Ina Sweeney in the second round. The ladies put up a great fight with Eithne and Ina winning on the 18th and Brigid winning on the 19th to secure the win for Gowran. Very well done to everyone involved, there’s been great commitment, practice and effort put in by all and it’s great to see the team doing so well.

The Ladies on The Boyne team overcame an away draw to beat Borris and proceed to the next round. Playing at home were Ann Mullins and Kathleen Whitehead who won on the 21st, Ann Farrell and Helen Dunne who won on the 18th. In Borris there was the mighty Nora Barron & Joan Murphy who won on the 17th and thus securing the win. Ger Hickey and Eileen Tobin put up a great fight away but lost on the 17th as did Peggy Canning and Cathy Hoyne who lost on the 16th. Great matches against tough opponents but it was Gowran who came through and we wish the very best of luck to the team who play Callan next with a home draw.
